Some Thoughts on Modesty

Some Thoughts on Modesty

After reading another really good post on modesty聽that made me rethink聽my own views and realizing that I failed to properly clarify some things, I felt the need to edit this post. To be honest, when rereading some of the things I said, I realized they sounded quite arbitrary. So if you read the original version [...]

About me

Hi! I’m Bethany, and I’m a twenty-two-year-old college student who wants to use my love of writing to share my faith and encourage believers to live more simply.

Some fairly festive pictures of the least festive person (I've seriously done nothing to prepare for Christmas, I'm always too lazy and indifferent). And I even accidentally wore Christmas colors. 馃摲: @tuesdaycarson
The only truly tidy and minimalist corner of my room. I wanted to be productive over break but pretty much all I've done is sleep and watch YouTube videos. And listen to Mumford & Sons' new album (which is sooo good). 路 路 路 路 路 路 路 #vsco #vscocam #homedecor #minimalist #minimalism #plants #mybdrm #seekthesimplicity #cornersofmyworld #plantsofinstagram #houseplantsofinstagram
Kind of sad this is the last autumn I'll spend on campus. Where did the last three years go? One of the times I'm happiest is when I'm on my own appreciating nature and taking notice of the beautiful things around me. I recently got really into Myers-Briggs personality typing and although it has its limits, I think it can be super helpful because it helps you understand yourself more. I'm an INFP, and a big part of my personality is that I love being alone and appreciating the little things, and I don't need constant social stimulation to be happy. I'm learning to accept the fact that I'll always have way more fun spending time in nature or listening to relaxing music than I ever will going to noisy parties, and that's okay. Any other INFPs out there? 路 路 路 路 路 #vsco #vscocam #naturephotography #nature #trees #treesofinstagram #treetops #thatsdarling #livesimply #inspiredbynature
Hey, I don't think I've posted on here for like two months. I've been distancing myself from social media a little bit lately as it was becoming quite unhealthy for me. Instagram is not only addictive, but it can also cause an unhealthy amount of comparison. But I do like to pop on here every now and then, and I want to make more time for taking pictures (and ones that I like rather than what I think other people will like). My wardrobe is like 70% grey. 路 路 路 路 路 路 路 #vsco #vscocam #sweater #livesimply #simplethings #thatsdarling #minimalist #minimalism
My first Instagram mirror selfie. It's rare that I post actual pictures of myself. Here I am in my natural habitat, surrounded by plants. 馃尡馃尩 Excuse my dirty mirror. On a completely separate subject, I've been discovering so much good music lately. I love finding artists that aren't in the Christian genre but have spiritual and meaningful lyrics. I recently discovered this indie band called Vancouver Sleep Clinic and I am literally obsessed with them. I have listened to their album so much and I never get tired of it. I also just discovered this folky indie band today called Tow'rs and I'm kind of in love with them too. I'm not against listening to secular artists, but I feel like music has a completely different vibe (in a good way) when it has the gospel message behind it, even if it's subtle. I think music affects your mindset in such a big way, and I love listening to music that has a hopeful message and a positive feel to it. I love Christian artists who don't limit themselves to the Christian genre, and I love the fact that there are actually loads of really good Christian artists now, unlike the crap that was out a few years ago. I'm definitely not against Christian music and listen to it quite often, but so much of Christian culture is like a little sheltered bubble which is kind of annoying, and a lot of it lacks honesty and depth. But there are quite a few artists now who actually have high musical standards and meaningful lyrics (that are more subtle and therefore aren't annoying to non-Christians), which was almost unheard of a few years ago. I think it's great when Christian artists go into the secular genre and create music that will actually reach a broad variety of people rather than shelter themselves in the Christian genre and make second-rate music that very few people will listen to and that would be considered musically appalling by secular standards. If anyone has any recommendations for good bands like these, please share. 路 路 路 路 路 #vsco #vscocam #homedecor #plantsofinstagram #plants #indoorplants #sorryfortherambling
As per usual I planned on getting loads of work done over break. And as usual I left most of it until the day before school. So here I am posting on Instagram to distract myself from looming homework. 路 路 路 路 路 #vsco #vscocam #vangogh #art #painting #almondblossom #thatsdarling #homedecor
